Big full band show this Friday, Dec 3rd @ the 8×10 in Baltimore – Please contact me in advance for $12 tickets.  With friends Dropping Sully and Superland.

Here’s the latest home-studio track of a new original called Morning Songs (Not to be confused with one of my favorite Umphreys McGee songs, Morning Song).  It’s an intimate confession about how important it is for my well-being to sing to (and for) myself.  Also noteworthy is that Jack the dog makes his debut in my lyrics.  Enjoy!

Today’s “From the Archive” is a newer original called Soft Spoken Prophet from our July 10th show.  That was the first club show with new music buddies Sander (bass) and Mark (keys).  It was the set closer that night and was packed with energy and an infectious groove.  This one is well on its way to becoming a heavy hitter.  In fact the whole show had an overall happy-go-lucky feel to it (Dayman, D-tour, Mario Theme, Bodies, Two Tickets, etc…) even if it was a little rough around the edges.  I suppose I wouldn’t want it any other way.  Thanks to all who lent their presence and attention for a great show.

Thanks and Enjoy!

From the Archive (2) – Grandpas’ Song

In honor of my Grandpa Anderson on this Veteran’s Day, here is Grandpas’ Song from 12/05/09.  Featuring the musicians on Great Unknown (Ryan Baldwin, Kenton Dunson, and Brandon Boring), this rendition couldn’t be truer to the studio version, but with a little something extra – the liveliness and soul of a once-in-a-lifetime performance.

Here’s the link:   http://www.archive.org/details/gwa2009-12-05 – I hope you enjoy!

Have a happy, safe, and grateful Veteran’s Day.  Peace.

From the Archive – Drop These Blues

The Live Music Archive is a great place to stream live music.  I’ve got a few shows up there (and hope to add more in the future).  Every now and again I’ll suggest a tune for you to check out in these “From the Archive” posts.

Today’s is a solo version of “Drop These Blues” from summer ’09.  I was trying out some finishing touches on the song to hone in on how I would sing and play it on the “Great Unknown” CD, but also didn’t hold back from feeling out some improvised vocals toward the end.  On the CD, Kenton rips a beautiful piano solo in that section, but when I play it solo, sometimes I’ll do a little extra singing there.  This was one of those nights I was feeling it.

It’s at  http://www.archive.org/details/gwa2009-07-25 – Just click on track 7- “07.Drop These Blues_vbr” – in the player on the right-hand side of the screen… hope you enjoy!

PS – At the end of the track you can hear someone say “You like that?  Isn’t that good?”  – I suspect they are talking about the hot seafood appetizer, but perhaps they were talking about the song!  If you recognize that voice as your own, please clarify for me – it’s been nagging me for 1 year, 3 months, 13 days, and a few hours.  Thanks!

Where’re the Lyrics?

FYI, You can find the lyrics for the songs of “Portraits…” and “Great Unknown” at www.garrettandersonmusic.bandcamp.com – If you’re looking at the whole album, just hover your mouse over a track and click the option to view the lyrics that pops up… Or click on the individual song.

I recommend reading along to “Prisoner’s Escape” and “Two Best Friends”.

Cheers!
