SAT SHOW & Bohemian Video

Here’s one last reminder to join us this Saturday 29th at Cacao Lane.  It is the last full-band gig for a while so don’t miss it.  Details are on the upcoming shows page.

To whet your live-music-whistle, here’s us performing Bohemian at our last show.  The tune is about being true to yourself, so to me, Mark’s sax solo absolutely nails the bittersweet angst that can sometimes accompany life’s cross-roads.  I’m sure he was thinking exactly that when he played it (smile)… Enjoy!

Full Band this Saturday! “Seeds of Me” FTA #6

This Saturday, January 29th, 2011
Full band @ Cacao Lane (Ellicott City)
with Dropping Sully (duo) & The Roofwalkers
FREE
(full disclosure: Our friends in the Roofwalkers are traveling from NYC for the gig, so we wanted to give them an earlier set-time for maximum exposure.  DS will kick it off around 9:30, then The Roofwalkers around 10:30, and we’ll start our set a little before midnight. So, please plan accordingly and grab a nap before you come out or clear your Sunday morning to sleep in!)

I’ve added two recent shows to the Archive.  Here’s a new upbeat genealogical tune called Seeds of Me from December 3rd – http://www.archive.org/details/gwa2010-12-03 (It is track #2 in the audio player).

Thanks for continuing to spread the word.  Also please keep your ears open and let me know of any good opportunities to play or promote my tunes, especially as we get into spring and summer – Peace.

OneTrack of Jeb

Hey all,

Thanks for a great gig on Saturday.  More to come on that in future posts.

For now, here’s a OneTrack of Jebediah (originally from my Portraits album).  I used a banjo and layered some keys on the CD version, but also enjoy playing it on guitar with a little harmonica.  To me its like singing a bittersweet western movie.  Hope you enjoy!

PS – I tidied up the Live and B-sides tracks at www.garrettandersonmusic.bandcamp.com (in the right column under “discography”), so check ’em out for some free chill tunes and covers.  Thanks for helping to spread the word!

FTA#5 – Bodies

Tristan Gilbert (of jazz-fusion band Break the Blue Line, among others) is joining us this Saturday, January 15th @ The 8×10 (we play at 9pm sharp).  To whet your sonic appetite, today’s From the Archive is a performance of our tune Bodies from when TG joined us back in July.

Here’s the link: http://www.archive.org/details/gwa2010-07-10.gwa2010-07-10_sbd

It’s Track 7 in the audio player.  The lyrics are a play on Jonathan Swift’s “A Modest Proposal” and the groove is one of our favorites to play – Hope you enjoy!

OneTracks and NYE recap

Thanks for a great New Year’s Eve gig.  My solo set included: New Umbrella, Soft-Spoken Prophet, (Cincinnati) Bowtie, Mindy, Irish Drinkin’ Song, and River of Dreams (B. Joel).  Then Josh Anderson joined me on fiddle for a mini-set of the Dave Matthews Band tunes The Stone, Pig, and Lie in our Graves.  For facebookers, here’s a video of our duo-DMB-set (the video is dark but the audio is pretty good!) –  http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=583567963483&comments&notif_t=video_reply

To keep up momentum as we begin 2011, I’m launching a new series of recordings I’m dubbing OneTracks – With these, I’ll capture and share the nuance and feel of quiet solo performances without any over-dubs or edits.  To kick off the series, here’s Brainchild.

FTA #4 “Mindy”, winter shows added

Hope to see some folks at the upcoming shows, starting with this Friday 12/31 ringing in the New Year.  Check out the upcoming shows page for details…

The fourth “From the Archive” is a solo Mindy from July, 2009.  It would be about five months later that I’d use Mindy as the opening song of my Great Unknown album, but that night I was just trying out a new arrangement of the tune to get a feel for it.  I used to play it in a somber dropped D minor but felt like the lyrics and music were disconnected so I wanted to take another crack at the music.  Inspired by Martin Sexton’s bouncy right hand approach, I slapped a capo on the second fret but left the low E open to keep a steady low-end with my thumb against the busier finger-slappin’ throughout.  It clicked, and it has become one of my favorite tunes to perform.

Enjoy, and Happy New Year!

If “G” is my Nick-name…

If “G” is my Nick-name, is “Garrett” my Nicholas-name?

Know someone that enjoys clever wordplay? Gift them my music this holiday season – insanely cheap CD discount right now at the Penny Store. I just mailed CDs to Brooklyn, NY this afternoon and I’ll tell ya, it feels great to spread the music. Let’s keep it up!

Thanks for the support.

Spreading on the Web – Sunset posts Lonely Eve

Sunset in the Rearview was kind enough to post my song “Lonely Eve” this Sunday. I appreciate the recognition and encouraging words – here’s an excerpt:  “Well, Garret Anderson definitely soothed my poor mood, reminded me things aren’t always as bad as they seem, and definitely made me happier to be listening to good music.
